The Kampala UTODA chairperson, Hajji Musa Katongole is accusing some Statehouse officials of backing efforts to end their contract of managing the taxi sector prematurely.
While meeting hundreds of taxi drivers and conductors to update them on the status of events concerning UTODA at UMA Show ground in Kampala today, Katongole stated that some Statehouse officials are conniving to throw UTODA out.
Katongole has vowed to expose them soon and has assured UTODA stakeholders that UTODA’S contract is still valid till 2014.
Meanwhile, the UTODA Vice Chairman, Chris Sengooba has strongly opposed the proposal by the city directors to replace the operations of taxis with buses in Kampala.
He says that this move will render over 80,000 people unemployed.
Sengooba says that the government would have given the existing taxi owners a chance to replace their taxis with buses by giving them interest-free loans to acquire those buses.
