A group of MPs sitting on the Equal Opportunities committee of Parliament is set to head to Malaysia on a fact finding mission to establish the number of Ugandans stuck in the Asian country.
The visit comes on the heels of reports that over 600 girls are stuck in Malaysia while some are being held in different prisons for committing crimes ranging from drug trafficking to prostitution.
The committee chairperson, Hanifa Kawooya says the committee will leave in two weeks with a team of officials from the Consulate of Malaysia and Foreign Affairs ministry to see the state of affairs with the women that are reported to be under arrest.
Kawooya says that they will also liaise with government to see whether the girls can be repatriated back to Uganda within the next few months.
