Uganda Travel and Tourism News: MPs decry poor state of roads in Uganda

Uganda’s Members of Parliament have decried the poor state of roads in the country despite parliament’s continued allocation of funds to the transport sector.

The Member of Parliament for Kumi County, Patrick Amuriat told parliament that roads like  Mbale-Tororo road, Mbale-soroti road and Jinja–Kamuli road  which were given to DOT Service Company for repair have remained uncompleted after a long time.

The MPs outcry over the poor state of roads in the country was reechoed by the speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga who told parliament that the Jinja -Kamuli road is in appalling state and warned that she will physically monitor the work on it. Kadaga is the Kamuli district woman member of parliament

MP Amuriat asked the government to take intervention to ensure that roads are constructed quickly and he warned that he will mobilize the people to chase away DOT Services from the roads if it fails to complete the rehabilitation so fast.

The Member of Parliament for Ntoroma County in Katakwi district, Amadoi Imalingat told parliament that roads in his area are full of floods.

The MPs also expressed concern over the shoddy work done by DOT Services on most of the roads it is contracted to repair.

The minister of works and Transport, Abraham Byandala apologized for the poor state of roads and promised to ensure that the work on the roads is done quickly.
