Uganda Travel and Tourism News: KCCA asked to harmonize taxi transport sector

Ultimate Media

Kampala Capital City Authority has been asked to harmonize the transport sector in Kampala to save the lives of people.

The remark has been made by the Kampala Central Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Rose Kirabira.

Early this week the drivers and conductors under their body Drivers and Conductors Central Association (DACCA) and Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers Association (UTODA) were involved in physical fighting over revenue collection.

The drivers subscribing to DACCA claim that UTODA’s contract to collect revenue from the taxis ended on 31st October while the latter maintains that the contract is still on up to 2014.

Since the wrangles started, the KCCA Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi says that the authority will not intervene before the case in the court between KCCA and UTODA is judged. UTODA sued KCCA asking the court to block the latter from discontinuing its contract before 2014.

RDC Kirabira however says that as leaders, KCCA should intervene to prevent the wrangles before they result into bloodshed.
