Uganda Travel and Tourism News: DACCA plans to takeover from UTODA

The drivers and conductors under their umbrella body, Drivers and Conductors Central Association (DACCA) have revealed their interest to takeover Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers Association’s (UTODA) job as the new taxi revenue collectors.

According to the DACCA leaders, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) issued a statement last week which exposed that UTODA contract is due to expire on 31st October this year and chances to have it renewed are minimal.

The chairperson of DACCA, Mustafa Mayambala and their legal advisor, Denis Musajja state that they now need KCCA to issue clear modalities of revenue payment and also beef up security in taxi parks on grounds that they have information that if the contract is not renewed, UTODA is planning to cause chaos.

The drivers and conductors however say that incase the contract is dubiously re-awarded to UTODA, they will take matters to court.

Meanwhile DACCA is advising the government not to send taxis out of town service operation saying this will antagonize service delivery in the transport sector.

According to Mayambala, it will be good to have buses ply different routes alongside taxis for good transportation services.

He adds that government will lose taxes if the huge number of taxis are replaced with buses which will most likely be fewer than taxis.
