Over 1,700 people have died in road accidents since January this year, according to statistics released by the police.

The commissioner traffic and road safety Bazil Mugisha says the rate at which the accidents are occurring is alarming, urging drivers to be more responsible.

Mugisha says most of the accidents are due to negligence and human error. He notes that many drivers are impatient on the road.

Last year, 2,974 people lost their lives in road accidents according to Mugisha.
