Uganda People News: Treason suspects ask for amnesty

Five treason suspects John Otim, Patrick Okello, leftnant Emmy Oryem Mwaka, Sgt Deoveranta Menya Komakech and Patrick Kidega have applied for amnesty.
They are jointly charged with nine others including a journalist Patrick Otim and a prison warder Francis Akena.
Prosecution says between 2006 and January 2009 in the districts of Gulu, Masindi, Padel, Kitgum,Nebbi, Kampala and other districts in Uganda they contrived a plot to over throw the government by force of arms by mobilizing logistical support and recruited personnel into Popular Patriotic Front .
According to prosecution, dDuring their arrest they confessed of having engaged themselves on activities of PPF a rebel group wanted to over throw the government of Uganda.
Prosecution adds that Patrick Otim a journalist revealed that he had some guns which were hidden in Padel district and the same were recovered and exhibited.
In August 2008 they held some meetings between Uganda and Kenya, Patrick Otim attended them and people from Diaspora agreed to finance the rebellion.
However nine treason suspects to face trial on 13th February including a journalist Patrick Patrick Otim before high court judge David Wangutusi.
