Members of Parliament have directed the Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs ministries to produce a list of holders of diplomatic passports in Uganda.

This follows complaints that some VIPs are misusing their passports while others who hold them are not entitled to them.

The committee chairman, Alex Byarugaba tasked officials from the Internal Affairs committee, led by Minister James Baba, to explain why the diplomatic passports fall into the wrong hands, citing a Ugandan pastor who was arrested in the U.S with a diplomatic passport yet he is not a government official.

Byarugaba says once the list is brought, the committee will audit and push the matter to Parliament for debate.

According to immigration regulations, those entitled to hold diplomatic passports include Cabinet ministers and their spouses, Foreign Service officers and their spouses and head of public service.

Others are the Chief Justice, Justices of the High Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, the governor of Bank of Uganda, chancellors and vice chancellors, traditional leaders and chairpersons and vice chairpersons of permanent commissions.
