The State Minister for Energy, Eng. Simon D’Ujanga was today forced by Members of Parliament to make an apology to his former boss over contradicting statements on the capacity of the Bujagali power dam project.
While appearing before the adhoc committee on energy last year, Eng. Hillary Onek revealed that President Yoweri Museveni was misled that Bujagali would produce 250 megawatts yet in actual fact, the dam had a 170 megawatts capacity.
However, Eng. D’Ujanga, while addressing the media days after, rubbished Onek’s revelations, saying Bujagali was designed to generate 250 megawatts and his senior colleague had blundered.
MPs on the committee today said that the two ministers disgraced Parliament by openly clashing yet the matter could have been settled in a more civilized manner.
Eng. D’Ujanga apologized but asked that the matter is settled amicably before the Institute of Electrical Engineers instead.
