The Police Commander for Kampala Metropolitan Andrew Kawesi has defended the of police against the actions of some individual police officials who abuse citizens or act in a brutal manner.

He says some of the people recommended to the police force by local council leaders are bad mannered and the police training is not able to remove all bad behaviours in them.

Kawesi was referring to an incident in which a police officer shot live bullets into people, killing two of them.

Speaking to journalists in Kampala Kawesi said the police tries hard to instil discipline and good behaviour in their officers but some individuals choose to ignore the proper conduct.

He says such people should not be taken to represent the behaviour of the whole police force, which he says has strict guidelines for its officers to protect life and property of people.

Kawesi also defended police actions of forcefully dispersing opposition supporters after their rallies. He says the opposition leaders fail to observe the agreed on regulations like avoiding moving in processions.
