All is not well at Namirembe Cathedral as Caesar’s help is being sought to determine God’s affairs at the centre of the Church of Uganda.
A member of clergy at the church has sued the Diocese Bishop, Rev Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira accusing him of unlawful dismissal and failure to pay him his entitlements.
While many would ordinarily expect the affected cleric to take his grievances to God, Rev. Eric Kasirye has sued the Bishop for terminating his services at Namirembe Diocese and transferring him to Busoga Diocese.
In the case before High Court Judge Benjamin Kabito, Rev. Kasirye contends that he was ordained priest on 24th September 1995 under Busoga diocese but was taken on as a staff member of Namirembe in July 1997.
He says in his plaint that Namirembe diocese however terminated his services in 2009 but he now claims his appointment was on a permanent basis and not temporary.
Rev. Kasirye is seeking Court orders compelling Bishop Luwalira and the registered trustees of Namirembe diocese to pay him over 28million shillings accrued as salary arrears, transport and medical allowances between 2009 and 2011.
Court has given Bishop Wilberforce Luwalira and the Trustees of the church 15 days to file their defense in the case.
