The Omukama (King) of Tooro Kingdom, Oyo Kabamba Iguru IV has asked the teachers to discontinue their strike for the development of the country.
While talking to his subjects in Mwenge, Oyo said that the future of Tooro Kingdom depends on literate people.
He urges the teachers to be patriotic even in difficult situations adding that the material things they (teachers) are demanding for, end at the time one dies.
Many teachers in Uganda have not turned up for duty at their respective schools since the third term started on Monday this week protesting what they call peanut salaries the government pays them.
The teachers under their umbrella body, Uganda National Teachers Association ask the government to increase their salaries by 100% but the government has declined to increase them by any percentage this financial year asking the teachers to give it more time.
