The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has asked his subjects to plant trees in different species in order to avert dry spell and famine.
The Kabaka says that planting trees will contain the environmental degradation the Buganda region is currently experiencing.
The Kabaka in a news statement also instructs his subjects to stop cutting down trees indiscriminately.
The king says the practice of cutting down trees affects water sources and results into environmental degradation.
He says planting more trees will also curb the effects of climate change such as prolonged drought, famine and floods.
