The Ankole Kingdom Prime Minister, William Katatumba has today announced Prince Charles Rwebishengye Barigye as the new heir to the throne just days after Price John Patrick Barigye passed away.

Prince Barigye died at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on Friday last week, after succumbing to kidney failure months after undergoing a kidney transplant at an Indian hospital.

Katatumba said Prince Rwebishengye had been chosen in accordance with his late father’s will, which was read to members of the royal family yesterday.

Prince Rwebishengye will also be assisted by Katatumba, Enock Rukidi, Gen. David Tinyefuza, Enos Tumusiime and Barigye’s daughter, Princess Rosemary Kirungi who will execute the deceased’s will.

The new heir is a student at Uganda Christian University, currently pursuing a course in Social Work and Social Administration.

However, the Kingdom of Ankole has never been commissioned by the government since the government of Late Obote put a ban on Kingdoms.
