Uganda Health News: UNFPA donates 11 ambulances for expectant mothers

The United Nations population Fund  has donated 11 ambulances to the ministry of Health to help in the transportation of pregnant mothers  to health centres in hard to reach areas.

The ambulances were handed over to the minister of health Dr. christine Ondoa by the UNFPA country representative to Uganda Janat Jackson at the ministry of health offices in Kampala.

The ambulances will be given to districts including oyam, katakwi,kabong,pader,Apac,kitgum,lira Dokolo,Amolatar, Gulu and Amur.

Dr. Christine Ondoa commended the UNFPA for the ambulances and she said that it will be used to contribute to the implementation of the National Development plan to reduce maternal and mortality deaths in Uganda.

The permanent secretary in the ministry of health Dr. Assuman Lukwago warned the health centres given these ambulances against using them to transport fire wood,charcoal, matooke and attending weddings as has often been cited in the media.
