Uganda is planning to utilise the Inter Parliamentary Union meeting to be held in March 2012 to convince other countries to adopt a resolution on improving maternal, newborn and child health.

The organizing committee says that resolutions for access to health as a basic right and the role of Parliament will be tabled before the assembly in a bid to convince countries to increase funding towards the health sector.

The committee’s publicity officer, Dr. Bayiga Lulume told Journalists today that the resolution was reached following a decision to support the campaign on health care.

He says proper healthcare for pregnant mothers, new born babies and young children continues to remain a challenge in many parts of the world.

Dr. Lulume says many governments are not complying with international covenants signed, with non adherence to the legally binding protocols on maternal and child health ignored by some countries.
