Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi is wanted by MPs to explain the controversies surrounding the purchase of 70000 LC bicycles in the country.

According to the vice chairperson of the parliamentary committee on local governments and public service Rapheal Magyezi, Mbabazi is wanted in his capacity as the leader of government business in parliament.

Magyezi told journalist at parliament that the latest intentions to summon Mbabazi are as a result of a recent advert by the ministry of local government last week in the media in which it called for bidders to supply 40000 LC bicycles.

He says members have already picked interest in the latest calls for bidders and therefore want to be educated on how the process is going to be done, what their point of entry is and how far government has implemented the parliamentary resolutions issued recently regarding the bicycles’ saga.

He says as a committee, it has not cleared the ministry to proceed with this project and hopes that the appearance of the premier before the committee when parliament resumes will enable them understand the latest developments.

The last time the government tried to purchase these bicycles, money was paid to suppliers but no single bicycle was delivered.
