The Uganda Bureau of Statistics has requested for more 27 billion shillings this financial year to conduct the national population and Housing census due in August.

The National census coordinator UBOS Francis Mashate told a press conference today that the money among other things will be used to procure data processing equipments for the exercise.

He says UBOS has so far received 26 billion shillings from government, out of the 130 billion shillings that was requested for the whole exercise.

Mashate says that the money will also pay allowances for the over 80,000 persons whom UBOS will require to conduct the exercise across the country.

This will be the 5th national population census to be conducted in Uganda; the last one was carried out in 2002.

According to UBOS Uganda’s population is projected at 33 million people, which were about 24.4 million people in 2002 when the census was done.
