The opposition has dragged government to court for failure to organize lower local council elections.
This follows the expiry of a deadline last evening the opposition had set up of 45 days for government to respond to the statutory notice issued.
The shadow minister for local governments Betty Namboozetold journalists in Kampala today that they have already instructed their lawyers of AF Mpanga and advocates and Tebuseke Mayinja Company advocates to handle the case.
She says they want court to force government to announce a date for the LC1 and 2 elections and also declare that the current individuals in the offices are doing so illegally among other prayers .
The Electoral Commission had scheduled to hold the elections in February but a Constitutional court ruling made them to be postponed.
Another opposition leader Maj. Rubaramira Ruranga challenges the election of lower council leaders in a Movement kind of system yet the country had adopted multiparty democracy.
