The member of parliament for Kalungu west Joseph Sewungu has threatened to mobilize all the teachers  to assemble at the National Association of teachers in Uganda headquarters at bat valley in Kampala to march to state house to resume their demand for a 100 percent salary
increase.

Sewungu says teachers will not teach when the first term starts on Monday January 30 if the government doesn’t increase their salaries.
He warns police not to try to block the teachers’ march to state house otherwise they will be confronted by the teachers

Speaking to Journalists at Parliament, Sewungu said the low pay to teachers is responsible for the bad performance of UPE schools.

He says teachers were promised a salary increase when they went on strike last year, but the government has only announced a 15% salary increase to be considered next year.

The MP says this is a total disregard of the plight of teachers who he says are struggling to make ends meet with the little money they are paid.
