The government is appealing for more support to the Karuma power project whose constriction is due to start in April 2012.

The State minister for energy Simon Dujang says the support of the public and Members of Parliament is crucial for the government to pull of this multi million US dollar project.

Dujang who had appeared before the ad hoc committee on energy to answer queries asked the mps on the committee to give government and ministers their support as they construct Karuma power dam project.

He says that MPs should not  bring arguments that will delay the construction of the dam as it was for the Bujagali in 6th parliament  a move that he says has brought a lot of suffering to Ugandans though limited electricity resulting into load shedding.

Dujang says that government received 9 bids for Karuma power project construction from whom to select the one who has most fulfilled all the requirements.

The MPs on the committee who include the chairperson Jacob Oboth Oboth , simon Mulongo,Andrew  Baryayanga promised their support to the minister .

Mulongo asked the minister to also work hand in hand with the committee by not lying to the committee what is going on and warned the ministry officials to stop misusing their offices for selfish gains.

Oboth oboth asked the minister to show to the committee commitment that they are willing to work in a transparent manner for the good of all Ugandans.
