Uganda Government News: Mbabazi wants technology to store generated electricity
Ultimate Media
The Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has expressed concern at the inability of Uganda to store power generated for future use.
Mbabazi says Uganda would have more power from its hydro power dams if the country had capacity to store the power generated for some time.
He was speaking at Bujagali power dam where he oversaw the switching on of the first of the five turbines as competition of the new dam nears.
The first turbine will add 50MW to the national grid while o completion in July Bujagali will generate 250MW.
Mbabazi says the dams sometimes produce less power because industries and people are not working at night, yet the dam has to generate more at peak hours.
He says there is need for a technology to store power so that electricity is produced continuously and that which cannot be consumed is stored for future use.
