The President of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki has lauded efforts by East African states in the peace keeping mission in Somalia.

Uganda and Burundi are the only countries in East Africa that have sent troops to the war torn country though Kenya, without the mandate of the African Union, late last year sent troops to diffuse attacks from the Al Shabaab at the Kenya-Somalia border.

Djibouti also has troops in Somalia.

Kibaki who is in Uganda to among others open the East Africa legislative Assembly meeting notes that the engagement is driven by desire to ensure peace, development and stability in the region.

He says the Success of community is directly related to peace in neighboring states hence the need to support it.
