The Uganda National Examinations Board has released the 2011 senior four exams indicating students performed better than those of 2010.

UNEB Secretary Mathew Bukenya says a total of 273,157 candidates sat for Senior Four national examinations in 2011, of which 254,220 passed to get UCE certificates, compared to  241,456 in 2010.

He said despite the increase in number of candidates, including some 107,977 under the Universal Secondary Education, the failure rate was low.

Bukenya said there was a general improvement in performance for most subjects, apart from geography.

While receiving the results, the Minister of Education and Sports, Jessica Alupo expressed happiness at the increased number of students passing senior.
