The new school term opening on January 30th hangs in balance as teachers promise to resume their sit down strike until the government responds to
Teachers says they will be pitching camp at Bat Valley Primary School until the government addresses their demands for salary increment and providing them with accommodation at schools, among others.
The MP for Kalungu west Joseph Sewungu says teachers have been patient with the government on their demands but the government has not responded.
Sewungu told journalists in Kampala that teachers are not ready to accept the 15%increament on the teachers salaries as proposed by the government. He says such an increase is “peanuts” since many teachers earn between 200,000 to 300,000 shillings.
Sewungu says the teachers have planned their strike at the beginning of the first terms so as to avoid striking in 3rd term and possibly interrupt national examinations.
