Secondary schools are set to begin senior one selection exercise starting from 2nd to 3rd February 2012.

The exercise will see schools admitting students based on their performance and respective cut off points for a particular school.

This follows the release of the Primary Leaving Examination results by the Uganda national Examinations Board.

The 2011 PLE showed a slight decline in overall performance despite having more numbers of candidates performing well and getting first and second grade.

This means the best schools will have more pupils competing for the few positions available at the top schools.

The minister of Education and Sports Jesica Alupo says schools are expected to smoothly handle the senior one admissions after the selections exercise to enable senior one students to begin their studies sooner after opening of first term.

The first term of 2012 opens on Monday January 30th.
