The minister of State for Higher Education Dr. John Chrisestom Muyingo  has dismissed claims that the poor performing schools are only government schools especially those located in rural areas.

Muyingo was reacting to mps concerns that some government schools perform poorly due to poor pay of teachers.

He said that even in this year’s secondary examinations the majority best candidates came from government schools.

Dr. Muyingo said that there is no evidence that the private schools teachers are paid higher than those in government schools. He says there are few private schools which pay higher salaries but government teachers are generally paid more than their counterparts in private schools.

He however attributed poor performance in some government schools to failure by stake holders in government schools to perform their managerial roles in schools and MPs in doing their oversight role.

The mps tasked the ministry of education and sports to avail with MPs the performance of government and private schools to enable the MPs assess schools performance and find a solution to poor performing government schools.
