President Museveni has asked parliament to reverse its decision of suspending the commission of inquiry into the UPE and USE funds.

The president according to sources within the NRM MPs promised to summon a special NRM caucus sitting to discuss the impasse caused by parliament on this matter.

Parliament chaired by speaker Rebecca Kadaga last week passed a resolution moved by Alice Alaso to suspend the commission of inquiry into the UPE and USE funds, accusing it of wasting tax payers.

The house established that this commission ever since it was formed, it had spent a staggering 6.3 billion shillings, but without giving a single report about the progress of its investigations.

Sources that attended the caucus sitting at parliament on Tuesday said that Museveni was furious with MPs asking to why they passed these resolutions without giving a fair hearing to the people who sit on that commission.

President  Museveni was also concerned that since the ministry of education and sports was one of the witnesses to this commission, it shouldn’t be the one to finance this commission of inquiry.

Last week, parliament tasked education minister Jessica Alupo to explain the progress of this inquiry and the minister told them that the commission was reporting directly to the president who appointed it.

Parliament resolved that the auditor general carries out a special audit against this commission of inquiry, the commission be suspended among other issues, but Museveni has since protested Parliament’s decision.
