Members of Parliament have demanded that the commission of inquiry into mismanagement of Universal Primary and Secondary Education funds be halted pending an independent probe into its operations.

The matter was last week fronted by Serere Woman MP, Alice Alaso, who tasked government to explain the work so far done by the commission owing to its delay to complete its work yet funds had been disbursed for the commission to do its work.

The Minister of education and Sports, Jessica Alupo tried to explain that the commission had been extended four times since its inception in 2009 but MPs were not willing to have any of that,

MPs were concerned that despite the fact that over six billion shillings has been spent on the commission, it has not finalise its work.

But the legislators were further angered to learn that part of the funds were meant for capitation grants to schools participating in the Universal Post O Level Education and Training.

The MPs are demanding an immediate probe to be instituted into the commission’s expenditure.
