Uganda Education News: HIV spreading in schools

A new health report released by the CRANE survey has revealed that four out of every 100 students in secondary schools in Kampala are HIV positive.

The report which was carried out in 2010 considered Students from senior 3 to 6 and a total of 54 secondary schools were sampled.

The project manager Crane survey George Lubwama says the survey also found that few students take part in testing for HIV with only 45 percent of the students sampled ever having been tested for the virus.

The research identified rape as a key driver of the epidemic, It showed that out of every 100 students, two hard ever experienced rape.

However some head teachers have criticized the report saying it has also included senior 1 and 2 whom they say are ignorant about sex education carried out in the schools.
