Uganda Education News: Government urged to regulate advertisement of education institutions

The Ministry of Education and Sports has been called upon to come up with guidelines that will be followed by private schools who intend to advertise and promote themselves in different media.

John Bosco Mujimbi, the Head of Uganda Private Schools Association says many education institutions are running misleading adverts in different media outlets.

He says as schools struggle to attract students, some schools are lying about their academic and infrastructural state in the adverts.

Mujimbi says many parents are encouraged by the adverts to take students to schools thinking the schools have good performance or good structures only to find it is not true when it is late.

He says some schools are also conning people promising to give bursaries and scholarships but parents find they have to pay a lot of money when they have already enrolled their children in such schools.

Mujimbi says this bad situation of events is a result of not having regulations that private education institutions can follow if they want to promote their services.
