Uganda Education News: Busitema University welcomes improved ranking

The Vice Chancellor of Busitema University, Prof. Mary Okwakol has welcomed her university’s improvement in the university rankings by popular ranking website webometrics.com
In its latest report, Busitema university which was started five years ago was ranked among the best in Uganda, and among the 100 best universities in Africa. It is the first time that Busitema is making it to the top100 universities in Africa.
Prof. Okwakol says their improved ranking is a result of improved research activities and publications the university has undertaken of the past year.
She says the university has committed itself to offer innovative courses and partnered with different institutions in different parts of the world, which have improved the teaching and research at Busitema, the only public university in eastern Uganda.
Makerere, Uganda’s oldest and most popular university saw its ranking in Africa reduce from 10th to 13th, but its overall world standing improved to by 45 positions from 1,256th to 1,211th in the January webometircs rankings.
According to a statement from webimetrics, the rankings are based on web publications, the visibility of the university on the Internet, the volume of the university’s publications and the general impact of the information published on the university’s web pages.
