Farmers in Kapchorwa will starting next week have a quality store for their harvested grain so that they tap better prices.

Uganda Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Amelia Kyambadde, the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Jerry P. Lanier, and World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director Sory Ouane will officially open a $1.4 million grain warehouse in Kapchorwa on Tuesday next week.

The newly constructed storage facility will enable smallholder farmers to access markets and increase cross-border trade in quality grain.

The U.S. Government, through the WFP, funded the construction of the warehouse, which has a holding capacity of 2,000 metric tons.

The facility is part of the WFP’s purchase for progress project which is aimed at enabling small scale farmers to store their grain produce and market it to WFP and other big buyers who offer better prices.
