The government of Uganda has been urged to address issues of land ownership conclusively if development is to be realized in the country.

The call was sounded today by a Land policy specialist, Nsamba Gayilya, who was speaking at the conference on the national land policy, which is being held at Hotel Africana.

Nsamba says the policy should address issues of land pressure resulting from the increasing population as well as challenges of urbanization.

The land expert also cautions that though there is need to secure land for large scale investment, the same must be achieved with respect for the rights of the poor.

Nsamba notes that though investors are needed, they must be able to co-exist with the local population.

The conference brings together stakeholders from different parts of the country to brainstorm on how best the land should be developed.
