Uganda Arts News: Kampala to host third Amakula Film Festival
The Amakula Kampala International Film Festival has announced the third edition of film festival that will be held from 4th 14th may in Kampala.
The festival is aimed at bringing the gift of inspiration and hope in the struggle to develop a thriving cinema and film industry in Uganda.
The third festival has been entitled Others voices aimed at making film another medium of expressing cultural diversity and cross cultural understanding.
The coordinator of the Amakula Kampala Film Festival, Jingo Kasujja said on Thursday that the festival will provide a platform for traditional and contemporary voices that can be expressed in songs.
Kasujja said that the festival will be launched in various cinema halls around Kampala for ten days to enable Ugandans have a feel of locally produced films.
The festival will also present a symposium on cultural plurality to emphasize the importance of appreciating and understanding different cultures and how the film medium would help to preach this message.
The ten-day festival will be held at National theatre, Cinema Plaza, Youth sharing Centre Nsambya, Bat valley and 20 video halls in all the five divisions of Kampala and entrance will be free of charge.
The Publicity Secretary of the Uganda Video Operator Association (UVOA), Mohamed Bagonza said his organization has organized a video jokers competition to identify talents in translating films. Bagonza said that the competition will help to develop capacity that will be utilized in growing film industry.
