The people engaged in making crafts have asked the government to give development funds as it is doing to other groups of people to engage in income generating activities.
The chairman of Nsambya Jua Kali Crafts Village, Sayid Idris says that the government is supporting the boda-boda cyclists, markets and farmers among others but it has turned a blind eye to the artists.
Idris says that their business require a lot of money to buy materials like wood and paint to mention but a few.
He says that the crafts industry would recruit many people but most of them are limited by lack of start up capital hence asking the government to give the sector subsidized loans.
The government has been promising to give loans to people to engage in income generating activities but asks those who want to benefit to form themselves into a SACCO (Savings and Credit Cooperation organisation).
