Another season of great footballing, players, fistfights between players & managers is in our midst again. Ugandans are soccer crazy. Where to catch the game is whatís on every soccer-loving mind. The bars are in brisk business so the swallows are selling like hot cakes.

On the streets of Kampala the premiership fixtures are everywhere you turn and so are club logos and shirts. On a good weekend you might be duped to think youíre in some part of the UK. The August issue of Premiership Magazine sold all its 22,000 copies in just two days forcing the New Vision to print more. Circulations manager Mr. Tom Wasswa said due to anxious calls from agents and readers who missed out, they have reprinted 15,000 copies.

The other Sunday I visited quite a number of bars and bufundas alike to gauge the mood. The community Charity Shield, which is the precursor to the Premiership season, was between the champions Chelsea and last season second spot holder Arsenal. Superstitious Ugandans believe that whoever wins the Shield does not win the Premier League except for Manchester United who have managed that feat. The Arsenal-Chelsea game ended in normal time with Chelsea winning it with a Drogba brace.

The frenzy in Kampala was beyond proportions; at Sabrinaís pub by 4pm it was packed. It was just as kicking at The Blues where the first goal created havoc. So was at TLC. By the time I reached the spot after at the end of the game.

Itís been hell without football and now the season of the game is back you can take a pick from the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie and all major leagues in Europe. The choice is at the fans disposal. In UK however the big five are Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool & Everton wait to tussle it out. All are gunning to overthrow Chelsea.
