I had about four to five different things to do on October 21, 2006.
A 12.5 mile training walk/run for the upcoming marathon.
Spend a whole day building homes in Tijuana , Mexico for the under privileged with Habitat for humanities group.
Sleep in and screw and forget the world.
Go to a baby shower and play silly games with some of my friends.
Join the Gulu Walk and be a part of something big to bring awareness to human suffering (children) in the Northern Uganda.
I guess you all have figured out what I chose. I went for my 12.5 mile training earlier and then I decided that charity begins at home; the Gulu Walk was more important than all the other things. I would have been just as happy joining the Habitat for humanity group. The baby shower would have been okay; I sent a gift. Sleeping in would have been a waste of time and very boring.
I went for my training at 6 am and it was over by 9:30am. I went home, got some breakfast and cleaned up a little. Then to the Gulu Walk. It was very hot compared to last year when it was so cold at 50°F below.
All joking aside, it was good to do the Gulu Walk and this year San Diego had more people than we had last year. The weather could have been cooler, but hey... we are San Diegans and we do not care for temperatures below 60°F...LOL!
Also there could have been more Ugandans there; but I did not know them or met them. I did not feel comfortable going up to every black person and asking them if they were Ugandans.
For some of you who are complaining about not seeing more Ugandans; remember you live in (White) Diaspora and you are outnumbered by the white people; even if all Ugandans showed up, you will be outnumbered by the whites. Be kind... they may have not received the message. Remember most of them are studying and trying to fit
in therefore they have no time to news on TV or newpapers. For those who live in Diaspora, they may not have the time to participate... My two cents worthy as usual... LOL!
I'm glad I chose Gulu Walk!
