Women Ministers and Women MPs have called upon the government to improve health facilities across the country to be able to offer reliable maternal health services.

Members of the Women Ministers and Women MPs network who were meeting in Kampala today say that many health facilities are not equipped to offer fitting maternal health services, which ahs led to the death or fracture of women who are giving birth.

Sarah Nyombi, the woman MP for Mityana says health centers across the country need to be boosted to handle birth related complications. She says many women get ruptured while giving birth, which causes increased bleeding and eventual death of the woman, and in some cases developing fitisula, a complication that makes the women to pass smelly urine uncontrollably.

Nyombi says this situation of leaking urine is especially common among under age girls and women who have not done enough exercises.

Ruth Kavuma, the woman MP for Kalangala district says that women need the government to save them from this situation which leads to social stigma as the women passing smelly urine uncontrollably are shunned in the community.

She says 2.6percent of women in Uganda suffer this fistula condition yet it can only be handled in few health centers like Mulago and Arua hospitals.
