The Parliament of Uganda is set to conduct a conference on maternal and newborn babies, health and survival of the babies. The conference is dubbed “Ensuring access to health for all women and newborn babies: the role of parliaments.”
It will take place in Kampala from November 23rd to 25th, 2009.
The three day conference is being organized by the Parliament of Uganda in conjunction with the Inter –Parliamentary Union and World Health Organization (WHO).
The Public Relations Officer of Parliament, Helen Kaweesa says the conference will provide a forum for Members of Parliament from developing and developed countries to exchange ideas and experiences.
She also says the meetings will focus on the possible mechanisms of reducing maternal and child mortality rate.
Kaweesa says the conference will increase cooperation between Uganda and other Members of Parliament across the globe.
She says the main objective of the meeting is to agree on commitments for parliamentarians to achieve the Millennium Development Goal number four of reducing child mortality rate and number five of improving on maternal health by 2015.
