The central government of Uganda is monitoring companies operating in the Oil reach region of Bunyoro to ensure they carry out effective environmental impact assessment.

The State Minister for Environmnet, Jessica Eriyo says Uganda wants to ensure that the environment is not degraded as drilling of oil takes place in districts of Bunyoro and West Nile.

She says the government is collaborating with the Norwegian government and oil companies to ensure economic targets do not compromise the preservation of the country’s eco-system.

Uganda recently discovered large barrels of oil in Nakasongola, Masindi, Hoima and some parts of West Nile.
