The government is in advanced stages of completing the National data transmission backbone that is expected to ease data transmission in the country.

This was revealed by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Ham Mulira.

He says the government has been laying a national data transmission backbone cable network to all administrative units in the country.

The minister says once complete, the backbone cable will make telecommunication cheaper and enable Ugandans to get more affordable telecommunication services.

He says the government and most service providers in the country have been satellite technology which is more expensive.

Mulira says National data transmission backbone will enable government extend ICT services to Ugandans across the country in order for Ugandans to reap the benefits of ICTs like internet and related technologies.

He says Uganda is also part of the Transcontinental sea cable network project which is expected to connect Uganda and other African countries to the international backbone cable, a move that will bring down technology interconnection related costs.
