No oil shares for Bunyoro Kingdom- MP
By Zacharia Tebirindwa, Ultimate Media
The MP for Buhaguzi Tom Kyahurwenda has revealed that Bunyoro Kingdom is not likely to get any shares in the income that will come from the extraction of oil from the different districts in Bunyoro sub- region.
Kyahurwenda says according to the policy of sharing oil in place, it only talks of benefits to the local government and nothing is said about benefits to the kingdom.
He has told journalists that the only way that the kingdom can benefit from the oil is if by the time extraction of oil begins, the country has changed to accommodate regional tier governments and Bunyoro is a regional government.
Kyahurwenda says then the kingdom will take on the capacity of a local government since it will then be directly involved in governing the regional government.
He says however that Bunyoro should not be discouraged by this because Bunyoro will indirectly benefit from the oil through the developments in infrastructure, education, health and other social sectors in the region.
