The head of Diabetes Department at Mulago Hospital, Prof. Andrew Otim has urged the government to recruit more medical staff to solve the shortage of doctors at the Mulago Hospital diabetics unit.

Professor Otim says that the current number of doctors handling patients suffering from diabetes is too small compared to the increasing number of patients visiting the hospital dairy.

He says the current doctor to patient ratio at the Department of Diabetes in Mulago Hospital is estimated at 1:1000 (one doctor to 1,000 patients).

Professor Otim says that there are only five doctors who attend to the patients on a daily basis at the Department of Diabetes Mulago Hospital.

Professor Otim says Mulago Hospital registers more than 20 diabetic patients every day.
