The former health minister Jim Muhwezi has said that the mismanagement of the Global and GAVI funds was mismanaged in Geneva Switzerland, where the headquarters of Global Funds are located.

Muhwezi together with his former junior ministers Mike Mukula and Alex Kamugisha are facing charges of mismanagement of billions of Global and GAVI funds meant for the treatment of Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and immunization.

While being interrogated by detectives at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials in Kampala today, Muhwezi denied all allegations that he was involved in swindling Global and GAVI funds money.

He said that he was only a victim of whistle blowing and circumstances because he tried to pin top managers of the fund.

Muhwezi says the wife of the Global Funds Boss once wanted to supply drugs worth 250million dollars which the ministry rejected.

The three former ministers were found with cases to answer after facing the Ogoola’s Commission put in place by President Yoweri Museveni in 2006 and headed by Justice James Ogoola.

The commission was put in place to probe the mismanagement of the Global and GAVI funds in the ministry of health headed by the three ministers.
