Two top Muslim leaders in the country, Sheikh Zubair Kayongo, the leader of the breakaway Muslim faction based at Kibuli and Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda based at Old Kampala Mosque have today agreed to mark Eid al Adha prayers in harmony.

Eid al Adha will be celebrated on Friday November 27th, 2009.

Sheikh Hussein Rajab Kakooza, the Director of Sharia at Old Kampala Mosque says Sheikh Mubajje will lead Eid al Adha prayers at Gadaffi National Mosque while Sheikh Kayongo will lead prayers at Nakivubo Stadium.

Eid al Adha marks the end of the Islamic year calendar and it occurs the day after the pilgrims to Mecca and Medina performs their final ritual of the Hajji activities.

Sheikh Zubair Kayongo told Ultimate Media that Hajji is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca. He says it is the fifth pillar of Islam.

Sheikh Rajab Kakooza says Muslims sacrifice animals on Eid al Adha as stipulated in the Koran in emulation of the prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son Ismeal (the Bible says it was Isaac).

Kakooza says sacrificing animals is a sign of obedience to Allah.
