The LCV chairperson of Masaka district, Vincent Bamulangaki Sempijja has appealed to the Ministry of Education and Sports to build libraries in the villages and sub counties of Masaka.

He says the sub counties of Masaka used to have public libraries but they were all destroyed in 1979 during the war which ousted the former President of Uganda, Alhajji Field Martial Iddi Amin Dada.

Sempijja made the remarks today at Masaka Senior Secondary School where he was speaking as the guest of honour on speech-day.

He says the increased cases of witchcrafts, domestic violence, murder and theft in Masaka are a result of low literacy levels in the district.

Sempijja says literacy enables men to control the size of their families. The LCV chairperson says the district committed to eradicate illiteracy if the Ministry of Education and Sports gives it support.
