Makerere University says the policy stopping Muslim girls from wearing head gear (known as Hijab) during exams will continue.
The University Spokesman Gilbert Kadilo says each university in Uganda has its own rules, regulations and policies that should observed and respected.
The Muslim students staged a demonstration last Friday at Makerere University protesting against the ban on use of head gears.
Kadilo says there are universities in Uganda which do not allow their students to step on university compound without head gears on their heads and others do not allow students to attend classes on Saturdays.
Kadilo says for Makerere University, putting on head gears or caps while students are writing exams is prohibited.
The students reasoned that the university administration is infringing on the Muslim students rights. The students say the Sharia Laws commands Muslim females to put on head gears and males, Muslims caps.
Kadilo denies that the ban on head gears is intended to infringe on Muslim students rights. The ban on wearing of head gears at Makerere started in May last year.
