Members of Parliament reiterated their calls to the government to fast track the repair of all major roads in the country as they mourned their fellow member, Henry Balikoowa.
Balikoowa died on Sunday night when his car collided with a tractor which was carrying sugarcane. The postmortem report from Mulago Hospital indicates that the MP’s nine ribs got broken; heart and liver got pierced leading to profuse bleeding which caused his death.
The MPs have today blamed the government for its slow response in handling infrastructure problems around the country, which has contributed to road accidents.
Speaking during a requiem mass at Christ the King church, the chairperson of the Busoga Parliamentary Group, Gerald Menhya appealed to the Ministry of Works and Transport to urgently fix potholes on the country's roads.
However the Minister for Information and National Guidance, Kabakumba Matsiko says this is not time to apportion blame, calling on all stakeholders to play their respective roles.
Kabakumba also stressed the government's commitment to improve on the country's infrastructure. Late MP Balikoowa survived with a wife and nine children.
