The Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources has demanded that the government should disclose the details of the oil sharing agreements to promote transparency in the extraction of oil in Uganda.

The Committee was today meeting the East African Legislative Assembly which came to discuss with the Parliament of Uganda on the way the East African countries can improve their extractive industries to enable them benefit all the East African countries.
The Chairman of committee Patrick Ochieng says since MPs are the representatives of the people, they ought to know about these agreements such that they can report back to the communities the developments in extraction of oil.

The Woman MP for Kitgum Beatrice Anywar says failure to disclose the agreements suggests that the government may be hiding something about its agreements with the companies that will extract the oil and this makes the extraction of oil prone to corruption.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the East African Legislative Assembly George Nangale has urged the Uganda to have a joint venture with the other neighboring countries to extract the oil as this can help Uganda easily acquire an oil refinery.

Nangale says for instance Uganda can team up with the Democratic Republic of Congo which is also producing oil to have a joint refinery which will be cheaper for the both countries.
